The Society of Infectious Disease (Singapore) is honoured to organise the 12th Western Pacific Congress on ,
Chemotherapy and Infectious Diseases which will be held at the Shangri-La Hotel Singapore from 2nd to
5th December 2010.

Despite impressive economic and social changes in the Western Pacific, countries in the region still face many
long-standing and some emerging infectious diseases. Our theme "New Pathogens, New Challenges" will help
us understand the journey ahead in managing infectious diseases and chemotherapy. By coming together to
share our collective experience, we hope to keep each other informed about the latest in infectious diseases in

The theme of this Congress is “Tropical infectious diseases and vectors in a vibrant and ever - changing environment”. In recent years, the emergence of new diseases and the reemergence of the old ones have significantly impacted public health in the region. Lately, outbreaks of chikungunya and 5th human malaria parasite - Plasmodium knowlesi in this region and dissemination to other parts of the world highlight the global importance of tropical diseases.

The Congress will gather local and foreign experts who will present their latest scientific findings on tropical infectious diseases that will stimulate interactive discussions and promote collaborations, with the aim of reducing the burden of these diseases in the region.

We welcome your participation and look forward to sharing with you a successful and informative Congress in Singapore.
